Treatment of Splenic Hemangiosarcoma with Doxorubicin and Palladia

04/06/2010
Palladia has been shown not only to have activity against mast cell tumors but also against other cancers through anti-angiogenenic pathways. Dogs in this clinical trial will receive standard of care chemotherapy (Doxorubicin) post splenectomy. Two weeks after completing the chemotherapy course the patient will start Palladia. Patients enrolled in this study will receive free Palladia and a reduced cost on follow-up visits.

Inclusion Criteria:
-Stage I or II splenic hemangiosarcoma (splenectomy)
-Completion of doxorubicin chemotherapy (5 treatments at 2 week intervals)
-Chemotherapy must be started within 21 days post-op
-Negative staging 2 weeks after the last treatment of doxorubicin

Patients must return for recheck examinations at weeks 1, 2, 4, 8, 12, 16, 20, 24, 28, and 32 following entry into the study. The costs for these visits will be partially covered by the study; costs for follow-up beyond 32 weeks will not be covered by the study, although the Palladia will still be provided at no cost.
