Clinical Trial for Dogs with Osteosarcoma
03/29/2011NEVOG is currently participating in a clinical trial for canine osteosarcoma. Dogs enrolled in this study will receive carboplatin chemotherapy and then will be randomized to receive either Palladia/piroxicam/cyclophosphamide or piroxicam/cyclophosphamide alone. Patients must return every 3 weeks during the chemotherapy phase of the trial. Once the second phase of the trial is started, patients must return at Days 14 and 28 then every 28 days thereafter. This study is partially funded. Patients enrolled on the study will receive free carboplatin, free Palladia if randomized to receive this drug and a financial incentive for the rechecks.
To be eligible, patients must meet the following criteria:
Weigh > 10 kg
Undergo amputation to remove the primary tumor
Have no evidence of metastatic disease at the time of presentation
Dogs must start the study within 14 days of amputation '�" NO EXCEPTIONS
No prior chemotherapy or radiation therapy prior to amputation
No non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs or steroids within 72 hours of starting the trial as well as for the duration of the chemotherapy
