Funded Clinical Trial for Dogs with Oral Melanoma |

Summary: New England Veterinary Oncology Group is currently offering enrollment in a randomized controlled study to determine the efficacy and safety of a gene transfer immunotherapy approach in combination with radiation therapy for the treatment of oral melanoma in dogs. AdV-tk is an adenovirus vector that delivers a gene to tumor cells which can kill tumor cells when combined with acyclovir. This approach may improve local control as well as create a systemic immune response against the melanoma.

Summary: New England Veterinary Oncology Group is currently offering enrollment in a randomized, blinded, placebo controlled study to determine the efficacy and safety of a new drug Paccal® Vet in the treatment of Grade II Mast Cell tumors in dogs. Paccal Vet is a form of a highly effective chemotherapeutic agent used in people called paclitaxel (Taxol®) that is undergoing registration for veterinary use within the EU and USA.

There has been much buzz and excitement surrounding FDA approval of Palladia (Pfizer), which is new drug licensed for treatment of mast cell tumors in dogs. Palladia is in the family of drugs called tyrosine kinase inhibitors which have been used in the treatment of cancer in humans for many years. Not only does Palladia provide veterinarians with a novel way to treat some of the more difficult mast cell tumors, it represents a commitment from drug companies like Pfizer to developing therapies specific for our veterinary cancer patients. Palladia is currently available only through veterinary oncologists and other selected specialists.

NEVOG is pleased to offer an on-call after hours emergency service. The goal of this service is to help make recommendations in emergency situations. A NEVOG clinician will be available by phone to offer advice and if needed, direct you to the appropriate emergency facility. We will also be able to consult with an emergency clinician if it is recommended that your pet be seen.
